by August 5, 2010 Technology

BlackBerry has announced yet another mobile set called the BlackBerry Torch or Torch 9800 which will be hitting the market by 12th August 2010 and would cost around $199. BlackBerry has a 2 year contract with AT&T, who will be the exclusive provider of the new BlackBerry Torch. As we know Blackberry is one of the famous mobile email and smartphone device which is designed and developed by a Canadian Company named Research in Motion (RIM).

BlackBerry TorchThe BlackBerry Torch 9800 has both touch screen and slide out QWERTY keyboard and hopes to prevent the migration of customers to iPhones and other Android operating system based phones. The BlackBerry Torch 9800 uses RIM’s new Operating System 6 and includes  a new  browser known as the Torch Mobile browser which is based on WebKit, the same engine used by giants such as Apple and Google.

The  new BlackBerry Torch 9800 has some good features such as pinch-to-zoom on the touch screen, Wi-Fi, 5-megapixel camera with flash and auto focus along with “environment” settings. The 5 Mega pixel camera is also provided with the ability to name the pictures by location. The Torch has  a 480 x 360 capacitive display, but has mile to go ahead in terms of resolution and pixel density. The camera lets you pick from a variety of preset modes, such as portrait, sports etc.

Torch’s video also helps you to capture quality motion pictures and shoots with a resolution of 640 x 480 resolution clips. As with iPhone, Android and Palm devices, the new BlackBerry Torch’s operating system is also enriched with the Universal search, which helps the users to search their devices by keyword to find anything on the device, in e-mail, contacts or music etc. The Torch is built with 512MB of RAM and 4GB of hardwired storage, with an additional microSD slot for storage up to 32GB.

The BlackBerry Torch 9800 also has a good look and mainly follows their predecessors. The persistent notification alert added to the screen by RIM helps you to see social networking, email, SMS, call, and calendar alerts all in one place. I am not going to write an elaborate review, as I am not having hand on experience with the Torch. But I have collected some information from the net and shared with you. Hopes that this brief review on BlackBerry Torch 9800 would prove beneficial to you.
