For Sweden, Pontus Jansson started in the defence ahead of Victor Lindelof who was not playing due to illness. And Nizhny Novgorod hosted the first match of World Cup 2018 tournament and the stadium was pretty much beautiful to watch.

The first half ended with a draw as none of the team could score a goal and the South Koreans really found it hard to breach the Swedish defence. There were also some exceptional saves from players such as Jo Hyeonwoo and Daegu which prevented the South Koreans from conceding any goals.

The second half started slowly and both the teams were in desperate search of a goal. Sweden captain Andreas Granqvist scored a penalty in the 65th minute and this aroused the team as well as the fans in the stadium. The Swedish team celebrated in the best way possible, while the South Korean looked disappointed.

The Swedish team defended well enough to deny any score scoring opportunities for the South Koreans till the final whistle blew when the score was 1-0. The Swedish team started their celebrations and there could never be a better start to their World Cup campaign. It was Sweden’s first victory in an opening match of the World Cup since 1958.
