The 9th edition of the ICC world cup cricket was held in the West Indies and it was the first time that West Indies was hosting the World Cup Cricket. A total of 16 teams participate in 4 groups and the top 2 teams from each teams qualified for the Super 8 round. Group A consisted of teams such as Australia, South Africa, Scotland and Netherlands. Group B consisted of teams such as Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, India and Bermuda. Teams such as New Zealand, England, Kenya and Canada came under group C and Pakistan, West Indies, Zimbabwe and Ireland constituted Group D.

The 1999 World Cup cricket was the 7th edition of this premier championship and this time the tournament came back to England after a gap of 16 years. England along with Ireland, Wales, Scotland and Netherlands hosted the 1999 World Cup cricket which had 12 teams competing for the title. As with the 1996 edition, the teams were divided into 2 groups containing 6 teams each. Group A consisted of teams like South Africa, India, Zimbabwe, England, Sri Lanka, Kenya and Group B consisted of teams such as Pakistan, Australia, New Zealand, West Indies, Bangladesh and Scotland.

Finally the 1983 World Cup Cricket (Prudential Cup) saw a new and unexpected winner in India which was led by the legendary all rounder Kapil Dev. India lifted the trophy by beating the mighty West Indies in an enthralling final. This defeat deprived the West Indies from winning their 3 back to back Word cup. This also proved to the world that the West Indies were beatable and India just did that in style.

The World Cup Cricket 2011 is just 100 days away and the countdown has begun for this mega event which is to held in India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka between 19th February and 2nd April 2011. This would be a 43 day event and 49 matches are expected to be played in this tournament. Dhaka would be hosting the opening ceremony of cricket World Cup 2011 on 17th February 2011.
